Portuguese dates normally follow this order:

day + de + month + de + year

Example:

4 de março de 2026

Unlike English, commas are usually not used when writing dates in Portuguese.

Portuguese dates follow the structure:

The word de means “of” and connects the parts of the date.

When referring to the first day of the month, Portuguese may use primeiro.

Example:

1º de maio

This is pronounced:

primeiro de maio

Other days simply use the number.

18 de janeiro

Saying Dates in Portuguese

When speaking about dates, Portuguese commonly uses the article o.

Examples:

o quatro de março de dois mil e vinte e seis
o quinze de agosto de dois mil e vinte e cinco

The article o means “the.”
